Denise & Joe - A Glamorous Skydeck Wedding at the Detroit Opera House

Chloe Leach October 1, 2018

It was 2012, and Joe Opland was interviewing for a position with Denise’s team at work. Out of all her co-workers, Denise was the only one who voted a strong “no” on hiring Joe. Lucky for her, she was outvoted and Joe joined her team. Over the course of the next two years working together as well as taking classes together at Wayne State University, Denise and Joe had discovered just how much they had in common. Because they were under no pressure to impress each other from the get-go, their friendship developed easily and naturally. They could be themselves when they were together, and that organic chemistry made them irresistible to each other. Long before they even started dating, classmates mistook them for a married couple. Between all the time spent together at work and at school, Joe and Denise weren’t getting tired of one another; on the contrary, they felt as though they couldn’t get enough time together. It didn’t take long for them to realize that they wanted to spend every day together.

On September 15, 2018, the bustling motor city was bathed in bright sunlight as wedding preparations got underway. Later that afternoon, Denise and Joe would stand on the Skydeck of the Detroit Opera House and exchange vows together. Here is a sneak peek from the first beautiful day of their happily ever after.

"Look and think before opening the shutter. The heart and mind are the true lens of the camera."

― Yousuf Karsh

“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”
― Ansel Adams

“All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.”
― Susan Sontag
