Caroline + Josiah - An Idyllic Summer Wedding on the Family Lavender Farm. Charlevoix, MI

Chloe Leach September 18, 2020

Some couples are just magnetic, and their affection for each other seems to bring everyone around them closer together. Caroline and Josiah are one such special couple, and their close knit families only sweeten the bonds of love they share. The wedding day was a rich fusion of history, strong family roots, and a celebration of all the good things to come.

A little back story: It was 2014, and Caroline was in her freshman year of college at Calvin. Josiah was a sophomore that year, and a bit more acclimated to his surroundings. The two found themselves together on joint dorm group date at a local gymnastics gym, and had noticed each other almost immediately. They struck up a conversation and quickly found common ground in their shared love of country music and, of course, the faith that was central to both their lives. By the end of the following year, Tuesday lunches together in the dining hall had become a staple of their weeks. They both assumed that the other only wanted a friendship and nothing more, so they continued under these platonic terms for some time. When Tuesdays weren’t enough time spent in each other’s company, these “friends” took to biking and running together daily, just to be around one another. By this point, everyone around them knew what Caroline and Josiah had yet to acknowledge: This friendship was about to change the course of both of their lives forever.

While watching New Girl together one evening and having one of their deep talks about life, Josiah asked Caroline if she’d like to go on a *real* date. There was no hesitation on Caroline’s part, and so began a whirlwind 3-year courtship that would culminate in the two lovers becoming absolutely inseparable.

Fast forward to the long-awaited wedding day. The setting was the Boss family farm, a 3-generation lavender farm with lots of happy history for Caroline’s family. The day was mild and the sunlight was soft. Joy was palpable in the air as family and friends gathered to surround these two and send them into their new life with love and blessing. It was a rare honor to be part of such a special day in the lives of these families!

“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”
― Ansel Adams

“All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.”
― Susan Sontag
